The portable laser scanner for the iPhone, iPad and Android is said to revolutionise 3D scanning.
Engineers Isaac Blankensmith and Kyle Dehovitz develop a portable 3D laser scanner, that communicates via bluetooth with Appel’s iOS devices and Androids. Two cameras and a versatile laser allow the user to scan objects.
The cameras capture the movements of the laser and calculate a polygon mesh. Data can be synced via bluetooth to mobile devices, which create a .STP file.
3D software is coming more and more to mobile devices. Sculpteo and Autodesk are already offering software for the iPad and Paint3D offers a version for Android. An iPhone App allows for 3D scanning through the built in iPhone Camera.
