Joint venture Sharkato has unveiled the Convert3D web app, which aims to simplify the conversion of 3D models between different file formats. According to the creators, format chaos is a major annoyance in many 3D workflows. That’s why they developed the free and ad-free web app.
The web app allows conversion without having to upload models to a server. Instead, the conversion is done locally in the browser using Web Assembly. This is said to make the process up to 5x faster than previous online converters.
All common 3D formats such as OBJ, STL, 3MF or FBX are supported as source and target formats. In total, Convert3D is compatible with 52 formats. The user only has to drag and drop the file and immediately receives a preview as well as the converted file for download.
According to the creators, the app should be able to be integrated as smoothly as possible into existing workflows. The long-term goal is a world without format problems, in which models are automatically provided in the appropriate format.
The conversion is free and can be used without registration. A Pro version also enables private model sharing, asset management, web embedding, automation and cloud conversion, among other features.
