ReplicatorG is a commonly used and simple open source application to control Thing-o-Matic, CupCake CNC, RepRap or other CNC devices. You simply have to import the GCode or a STL file and the application performs the process itself.

Google SketchUp is a simple to use, free software for modelling of 3D objects. The data can then be exported in KMZ or DAE format. By converting the files into GCode format (via DXF/STL exporter plug in) you can skip the Pro Version (€388).
The advantages of Google SketchUp are an excellent support of the application and a free Google 3D Gallery.
