NCDMM expands America Makes CORE platform with Roadmapper 2.0 and new functions

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) recently unveiled the enhanced capabilities of its America Makes CORE platform and the latest data dissemination tool, Roadmapper 2.0. The America Makes CORE platform is a secure online platform designed to make it easier for members to access and utilize intellectual capital consistent with the Technology Development Roadmap.

“CORE is the centerpiece of America Makes’ larger digital presence,” said Jason Saly, NCDMM Director of IT & Cloud Services. “It contains the collective knowledge gained from over $500M in funded research efforts as part of America Makes’ public-private partnership with Manufacturing USA. This secure platform allows us to search through a vast array of files, deliverables, and metadata accumulated over the years.”

Through CORE, members gain access to a variety of files, reports and metadata that have been collected over the years. Since the launch of CORE last year, several updates have been made, including a mobile version for better usability and an enhanced reporting function with an advanced filtering system.

“Our IT team has also streamlined the process for members to access, edit, and contribute to project deliverables,” Saly added. “We’ve also introduced the capability to upload artifacts and link them directly to existing deliverables from other projects, a function previously unavailable.”

One of the new features of CORE is the ability for members to access and edit project results and link new artifacts directly to existing projects. These functions are intended to improve exchange and collaboration within the platform. In addition, the NCDMM IT team is working closely with Penn State University to upload large files without the need to download large data sets.

A look into the future shows that CORE will be further expanded. Among other things, there are plans to develop a generative AI search function that will make it possible to establish unexpected connections between seemingly unrelated topics. This AI should help to gain deeper insights into additive manufacturing processes, material design and other relevant areas.

“Generative AI can uncover unexpected connections between seemingly unrelated topics, providing insights that traditional searches might miss,” Saly explained. “Imagine a search engine that truly ‘understands’ additive processes, manufacturing, material design, and even past behaviors. Generative AI brings us closer to that reality.”

With these enhancements and new tools, the NCDMM strengthens its role as a leading provider of digital solutions for the additive manufacturing industry by further simplifying and optimizing access to critical data and knowledge for its members.
