Oman opens world’s first 3D-printed coffee house

A café has opened in Oman’s Duqm Special Economic Zone that operators say was built entirely with 3D printing technology. It measures 101 square meters and is the first commercial café in the world to be built in this way, according to Duqm SEZ.

The cafia cafe is located in a tourist-heavy area. It offers various coffee drinks and pastries. For this purpose, it cooperates with coffee roasters from Oman. The opening is part of the special economic zone’s strategy to facilitate partnerships between public institutions and private companies. Small and medium-sized enterprises are to receive comprehensive support.

According to the operating company, the café’s design is intended to attract tourists and residents. 3D printing enabled faster and cheaper construction than traditional methods.

The Omani government is pushing the development of 3D printing technologies. The use of digital manufacturing processes for commercial applications is intended to broaden the economy and make it less dependent on oil exports.
