Hypercar manufacturer Bugatti Rimac has announced the opening of a new research and development center in Italy. The site in Bologna will work closely with the company’s headquarters in Croatia to develop innovative technologies for future vehicles.
According to the company, the new innovation center will employ up to 50 people. They are to focus on areas such as alternative drive systems, vehicle control and lightweight construction. Traditional areas such as aerodynamics and acoustics, as well as research into new fuels, are also to be covered.
The aim is to deliver groundbreaking innovations for the planned Bugatti and Rimac hypercars, he said. In addition, the Italian team will reverse-engineer parts for historic Bugatti vehicles to produce replacement parts. Additive manufacturing will also be used for this purpose at the new center.
For Bugatti Rimac, the opening of the R&D center is another milestone, according to CTO Emilio Scervo. Proximity to suppliers and partners, as well as on-site expertise, should help to develop forward-looking technologies.
