At the 10k race in Worcester long-distance runner and world-record holder Paula Radcliffe celebrated her comeback. This was one of the first runs to prepare for the London marathon next April. The 3D printed insoles she head been using were designed by the newly founded company RS Print, a collaboration of RS Scan and Materialise.
In order to create the unique insoles, RS Scan’s dynamic gait analysis process is used. The results are then examined for where extra support is needed and a custom design is generated based on the specialist’s analysis and input. This design is sent to RS Print, where a thin, lightweight and dynamic insole is 3D printed. Finally, a cushioning layer is mounted on top for extra comfort.
RS Print is opening up the technology for everyone. You can already get your own 3D printed insoles a the RS LAB stores in Belgium. Further stores are about to open in other European regions.
