Prusa Research presents the MK4S, an update to its popular 3D printer. The new model brings numerous improvements based on community feedback, with a focus on a redesigned cooling system and a more powerful nozzle.
The most notable innovation is the 360-degree cooling system. A high-pressure fan mounted at an angle prevents hot air from recirculating to the heatsink. This increases efficiency and, according to the manufacturer, allows the fan to be turned off for 30% of the print time without an increase in noise. The improved cooling now enables overhangs up to 75 degrees without support structures.
In collaboration with Bondtech, Prusa developed a high-flow nozzle for the MK4S. It increases the maximum flow rate and optimizes print quality at higher speeds. New profiles with layer heights of 0.25 and 0.28 mm further enhance efficiency.
Prusa is also introducing a new app with the MK4S. It allows remote control of the printer and integrates functions such as network printing and scheduled print starts. The Wi-Fi setup has been simplified and can now be done via NFC or touchscreen.
In terms of materials, Prusa is using more durable PC Blend Carbon Fiber for many components. The LCD cover is being produced using injection molding for the first time. Despite these changes, 3D-printable replacement parts remain available.
With the MK4S, Prusa Research successfully addresses criticisms of its predecessor. The company demonstrates that it takes user feedback seriously and is continuously working on improvements. The new 3D printer is likely to appeal to both beginners and experienced users.
The MK4S replaces the previous model at the same price. As a kit, it costs 799 USD, and fully assembled, it costs 1099 USD. MK4 owners can purchase an upgrade kit for 99 USD. With the discount code “3Druck“, customers who order by August 26, 2024, will receive a free Prusament Filament-PLA spool.
