To mark its 100th anniversary, pants label ALBERTO from Mönchengladbach is teaming up with bike Magdeburg manufacturer URWAHN to launch an anniversary gravel e-bike with unique technology and design. The collaboration combines the minimalist design language of URWAHN bikes with the iconic style of ALBERTO.
As an innovative provider of urban mobility, URWAHN makes 3D print production marketable in the bicycle industry and develops (e-)bikes that are specifically adapted to everyday urban conditions. In doing so, URWAHN focuses on the needs of users, an aesthetic design and, above all, a sustainable and regionally rooted value chain. For ALBERTO, sustainability does not end with increasing the percentage of organic cotton in the pants, but with creating a product that allows the end user to contribute to sustainability. The longevity of this product is the sustainability here.
An idea for a new “framework” program is born, as in the case of the anniversary bike, created in collaboration with URWAHN on the occasion of their milestone birthday. What the two labels have in common is the pursuit of sustainable movement coupled with function and style.
Marco Lanowy, CEO of ALBERTO, describes: “We want to be close to the people who wear our pants every day, to really understand their needs and requirements. That’s why I’m constantly on the ground. That’s also how I discovered URWAHN bikes – and their approach really excited me.” He also eventually got to know URWAHN founder Sebastian Meinecke and his team through a personal contact. “Great guys and girls! Everyone really exudes enthusiasm for what they do.”
Steel meets textile
Made of steel, the Anniversary-bike with a special softride structure is a good technology example in lightweight construction. It is the world’s first gravel e-bike from the 3D printer and produced regionally in Magdeburg. Thanks to 3D printing technology, the electric adventurer weighs just 14.8 kilograms – but knows how to impress with a whopping 40Nm of torque at the rear wheel. A precise electric drive from MAHLE is built in, as well as a 250 Wh battery, which provides a range of up to 80 kilometres. Both components were hidden by URWAHN completely invisible in the down tube of the steel work of art.
Additionally, here is the option of mounting another 208 Wh battery on the down tube. This also comes thanks to its water bottle shape visually completely discreet. Moreover, the mechanical Shimano GRX 600 1-11-F derailleur can be precisely switched, while the handlebars and bearings of the ALBERTO anniversary bike come from Acros. The special Lauf leaf-spring fork promises, in addition to the soft ride structure of the steel frame, pleasant riding comfort in the cockpit. Another highlight is the Lightskin LED eyes integrated into the handlebar and saddle unit, which illuminate the thicket widely when poaching.
In terms of design, there is a puristic, asphalt-black matt finish in powder coating, small accents are set by the abstract design components in ALBERTO bike yellow, such as a graphic of the topography of Mönchengladbach, the founding date of the ALBERTO company in Roman script, or the location coordinates of the headquarters on the frame or rims. The elements are not merely decorative accessories, but pursue a purpose. Reflective at night, they ensure greater visibility and thus additional safety.
The gravel e-bike in the URWAHN x ALBERTO Edition, priced at € 7,499, is available now at ALBERTO online store and concept store in Mönchengladbach. More information on the attachments used can be found in the equipment specifications under www.URWAHNbikes.com.
