New Titanium Bicycle made in Spain using 3D Printing

It is called Angel Heaven and it is the new bicycle designed and manufactured by the company Angel Cycle Works from A Coruña, in collaboration with Madit Metal, using 3D printed titanium. It is valid for road or gravel, a universal bicycle, with the most cutting-edge technology in manufacturing and welding, as well as with a unique design and lightness. It took 3 years to be completed in 2023 and its creators say about it that “it redefines the possibilities of titanium and high-end within the bicycle industry.”

Taking as a reference from the fastest vehicles in the world to the most efficient examples of typical natural structures, they have created a new R&D team together with the MADIT team for the manufacturing process. Heaven is the result of its extensive experience in quality cycling products with the application of 3D printing technology. They were not trying to make a common bicycle in 3D printing, but their objective was always to prepare, to improve and to relocate titanium, technology and its derivatives in the market.

Features, technology and functionalities

Compared to a high-end titanium frame weighing more than 1,600 grams, Angel Cycle Works has managed to reduce 400 grams, thus achieving numerous advantages and improvements. Some of them are its high resistance in cushioning impacts, thanks to its courage in choosing titanium over aluminum or carbon, its resistance to corrosion and the passage of time or the beauty of the final finish of the bicycle.

3D printing technology by SLM (Selective Laser Melting) was used for its manufacturing. This consists of the overlay of layers of metal powder and their subsequent fusion using a laser. Later post-processing operations are carried out, which include heat treatment, band saw, lathes, milling machine, welding, ultrasonic bath and others. They use titanium powder, exclusive to their brand, thus managing to personalise and obtain unique designs. The high precision of their 3D printers, the hardness of the powder and their triple track support allows them to lighten and eliminate unnecessary material, create new cutting-edge and resistant products, a more direct encounter between the frame and its bearings as well as a very good alignment of all its elements. In addition, its oversized steering system provides absolute precision, a clean, hidden and natural passage of all cables for all types of shifting and braking systems.

The assembly is simple even on a mechanical level, it does not require internal guides and all the cables move at wide angles, without blockages or vibrations, thus making even the experience of riding the bike elegant, high quality and pleasant. We cannot forget that integration is also an essential element of the new bicycle frame design for the company and the smooth welds are a great advance in this regard.
