The startup Hypsole has presented 3D-printed cleat protectors that are manufactured using Carbon‘s Digital Light Synthesis technology. Cleat guards are plastic covers that protect sports shoe cleats during transportation in a bag, car or similar situations.
The Tidal 3D Elite Cleat Guards act as removable outsoles that allow athletes to transform their cleats into functional shoes for everyday wear. This functionality is particularly useful when athletes want to continue using their cleats after training or playing, without the usual walking restrictions. The innovative design approach, which mimics the natural shape of cleats, ensures that the cleats stay securely in place during movement. An adjustable button and strap system also allows individual adjustment to different cleat heights and widths, while a notch in the heel area allows the guards to be removed quickly and easily.
“Once the functional requirements of the product were established, the aesthetic – from fit to finish – became a top priority. I didn’t want this product to be just another piece of sports equipment – I wanted fashion and streetwear to be infused into the design visuals. I felt strongly that it needed to look good – and that we needed athletes to want it as much as, if not more than they needed it, because at the end of the day, if it works, but it’s not hitting aesthetically – then we’re going to be fighting an uphill battle with our target demo,” said Founder and CEO Jes Christian.
For the production of the Cleat Guards, Hypsole uses Carbon DLS, an advanced 3D printing technology that uses digital light projection to cure liquid resin. This process enables the creation of products with outstanding functional and visual properties that cannot be achieved using traditional manufacturing methods.
“Carbon’s technology was developed to bring about products that push the boundaries of what’s possible no matter the markets or industry — and Hypsole is no exception,” said Phil DeSimone, Co-Founder and Office of the CEO at Carbon. “We’re proud to partner to bring its revolutionary sports footwear concept to life, with Carbon’s DLS technology, enabling improved performance for athletes at all levels.”
For the production of the Tidal 3D Elite model, Hypsole has chosen Carbon’s Elastomer Polyurethane (EPU), a material made from 40% renewable resources that outperforms conventional thermoplastic polyurethanes. This material offers the necessary durability and flexibility to meet the high demands of sport.
The Tidal 3D Elite Cleat Guard is available at a price of 75 US dollars in two colors and ten unisex sizes. It is available exclusively through Hypsole’s website and fits a wide range of cleat models from leading sports brands. With this product, Hypsol
