Slant 3D, a provider of 3D printing services, has released a plugin for the e-commerce platform Shopify. This tool gives shop operators direct access to the company’s extensive 3D printing capacity.
The plugin builds on previous developments by Slant 3D, including a similar tool for Etsy and a beta version of a 3D printing API. With the Shopify integration, the company aims to further lower the barriers to entry into 3D printing retail.
Shop operators can now upload and offer 3D models without having to worry about production and shipping. Slant 3D takes care of printing and shipping directly to the end customer once the order has been received. This opens up new opportunities for designers and entrepreneurs to serve global markets regardless of their location.
CEO Gabe Bentz emphasised the efficiency of the system in the announcement: ‘We currently ship all orders within five days and are working to reduce this to under three days.’ Slant 3D’s print farm comprises over 3,000 machines, offering unrivalled scalability for on-demand production.
Technically, the system uses FDM printing with PLA materials in various colours. The standard settings include a resolution of 0.2 mm and 25% infill, which is a good compromise between quality and production speed for many applications.
