Mark Norfolk, President and CEO of Fabrisonic, has announced his resignation from the top of the metal 3D printing company. Norfolk announced on LinkedIn that he will be leaving his position at the end of August. A successor has not yet been named.
Fabrisonic, a US company, specialises in the commercialisation of a patented metal AM process. The technology combines CNC milling with a printing process for moulding components.
The centrepiece of the Fabrisonic technology is the ultrasonic AM process. Here, successive layers of metal foils are welded together using vibrations to create solid metal components. A patented ultrasonic print head is integrated into 3-axis milling machines and enables the seamless transition between additive and subtractive manufacturing.
This method is particularly suitable for the production of heat exchangers, components for thermal management and electrically conductive components. It is also used in materials research, series production and component repair.
A key advantage of the process is the ability to work at room temperature. This allows the processing of materials that could be problematic at higher temperatures. In addition, internal structures and cavities can be manufactured precisely, which is often difficult with conventional methods.
