HyDesign: New design software for 3D-printed lattice structures from Hyperganic

Hyperganic, known for its algorithmic engineering software solutions, recently introduced HyDesign, a cloud-native design application for creating 3D-printed lattice structures. This new software is designed to enable industrial designers, application engineers and OEMs to design lattice products easily, quickly and cost-effectively.

An outstanding feature of HyDesign is the integration of Forward AM’s Ultrasim® 3D Lattice Library. This library provides a variety of superior lattice structures and replaces the standalone version of the Ultrasim 3D Lattice Engine, further simplifying the design process within HyDesign.

HyDesign aims to address key challenges in the design of 3D printed lattice structures. This includes simplifying the many options for lattice designs, materials and printers. It also eliminates the need for expert knowledge and powerful hardware. HyDesign minimizes costly and time-consuming test prints and speeds up the design process with validated materials and simulation-less modeling currently in beta.

“Developing products for 3D printing has traditionally been costly trial-and-error,” said Michael Robinson, Managing Director and CTO of Hyperganic. “HyDesign changes this by accelerating the design process with design flexibility, validated materials, and simulation, all in an app that takes minutes to learn.”

HyDesign’s key features include the instant creation and customization of lattice structures. Designs can be generated in seconds and exported in standard file formats such as STL or 3MF. The Ultrasim 3D Lattice Library provides access to validated materials, reducing the time required for material validation in the development of applications such as footwear, seating and protective equipment. Simulationless modeling, a feature currently in beta, helps further reduce trial and error by achieving results with as little as 5% deviation from industry-standard simulation packages.

HyDesign makes it possible to work directly in the browser without specialized hardware, leading to impressive aesthetic results, ultra-lightweight structures and superior pressure distribution in the lattice designs.

Martin Back, CEO and Managing Director of Forward AM, states, “The Ultrasim 3D Lattice Library represents a significant leap in designing for additive manufacturing. By combining our materials expertise with Hyperganic’s technology, we’re not just optimizing products – we’re reshaping entire industries and accelerating innovation cycles across the board.”

A notable example of HyDesign’s success is the use of the software by automotive designer David Alby Medina. Medina, who had previously experimented with traditional 3D modeling for four years, used HyDesign to design an ergonomic bicycle saddle.

“One of the features that I love about HyDesign is that I don’t have to take care of doing highly demanding computing operations on my computer. All the re-meshing operations are done on the cloud,” Medina noted.

Future developments of HyDesign include features such as thermal simulation, fluid mechanics simulation and parametric optimization, enabling designers and engineers to solve complex challenges and optimize industrial parts such as heat exchangers. Hyperganic’s vision for HyDesign is an easy-to-use, unified loop of design, simulation and optimization for product design and optimization.
