Bambu Lab and CMF by Nothing launch 3D printing design competition for smartphone accessories

Bambu Lab and CMF by Nothing have launched a 3D printing design competition for the Nothing Phone 1. The competition is aimed at 3D designers, creatives and enthusiasts and runs from July 23 to August 14, 2024.

Participants can create individual designs for the back and accessories of the modular smartphone. Nothing will provide a STEP file of the back and the exact dimensions. The designs will be uploaded to the 3D model platform MakerWorld, where they can be downloaded and printed by other users.

Dr. Tao, co-founder and CEO of Bambu Lab, emphasizes the importance of the competition: “We believe that the introduction of modular and circular product designs is central to this revolution. Nothing is exactly the kind of forward-thinking company we want to work with.”

Akis, co-founder of Nothing, adds: “We are constantly looking for opportunities to co-create with our members. It felt natural to open up the CMF Phone 1 platform to the creative community on MakerWorld too.”

The jury, consisting of well-known YouTubers such as 3D Printing Nerd and Unnecessary Inventions as well as Akis Evangelidis, will select the winners in three categories: Best Functionality, Best Appearance and Most Unexpected Creation. The main prizes are a CMF by Nothing Phone 1 and a Bambu Lab A1 Mini Combo 3D printer respectively.
