SCANcalc from SCANLAB now also supports 3D scanners

SCANLAB GmbH has added new functions to its popular calculation app SCANcalc. The free app, which was first introduced in 2017, now also offers support for 3D scanning systems. This extension allows users to calculate the spot size and Rayleigh length for 3D systems at the touch of a button, which was previously only possible for 2D systems. SCANcalc makes it much easier for users to check scan parameters for their specific requirements.

The selection of the optimal scanning system depends on various fundamental factors, such as laser power, the need for dynamics and the required precision. For an exact match, the technical specifications of the respective 2D or 3D scan head must be harmonized with the required process parameters. 3D scanning systems in particular are often used in additive manufacturing, laser welding and other industrial processes where high precision and efficiency are required.

With the new version 1.40 of SCANcalc, which is available for both iOS and Android in the app stores in German and English, users can now also perform calculations for 3D systems quickly and easily. A special feature of the app is the integrated SCANpedia glossary, which explains technical terms, as well as a detailed help menu that provides support for questions about the calculations. Another advantage is that the app can be used without an internet connection after installation, which makes it particularly flexible to use.

The expansion of the SCANcalc app represents a significant step towards providing users with more comprehensive tools for optimizing their scanning processes. The integration of 3D scanners makes the app relevant for an even wider range of applications, making it an indispensable tool for many users in the industry. Experts see this development as an important step forward for efficiency and precision in additive manufacturing and other industrial applications.
